Las Vegas Sphere Avatar Scanners
By the summer of 2023, my company had the privilege of multiple collaborations with Madison Square Garden and the now world-famous Las Vegas Sphere. Witnessing the evolution of this revolutionary venue firsthand—from its construction phase to its final stages of plaster and polish—was both inspiring and humbling. With an understanding of the Sphere Atrium’s objectives, we proposed our LiteScan system as an interactive guest experience. The Sphere team immediately approved, setting in motion an ambitious timeline: less than four weeks to design, fabricate, and deploy a custom version of LiteScan tailored for the venue.
The project called for the reimagining of LiteScan at an unprecedented scale. While LiteScan had already proven successful at other events, this deployment demanded a system capable of handling hundreds of thousands of participants with impeccable reliability. This meant not only engineering a physical solution resilient enough to meet the venue's demands but also developing a custom backend infrastructure and producing original content aligned with Sphere’s branding—all in time for its grand opening.
The result was a groundbreaking success. LiteScan’s debut at Sphere marked a major achievement in volumetric capture, delivering a seamless experience for guests and establishing itself as a hallmark of innovation at the venue. Visitors were scanned and transformed into captivating volumetric avatars, contributing to a spectacle experienced by millions and viewed across countless screens worldwide.
By scale and reach, LiteScan at Sphere has likely achieved the largest audience for any volumetric capture solution globally. This monumental achievement stands as a testament to the phenomenal talent, commitment, and creativity of my team of artists, producers, and engineers who made it possible.
Sphere Avatar Scanners not only set a new benchmark for volumetric capture but also highlighted the transformative potential of interactive technology in entertainment. It remains one of the most ambitious and rewarding projects I have had the honor to lead.

The 100%
The 100% is a pioneering virtual reality experience and a heartfelt fundraising campaign created for Stand Up To Cancer. It tells the powerful story of a rising star ballerina, diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, and her extraordinary journey through courage, resilience, and grace.
One of the earliest large-scale productions in volumetric video, The 100% broke new ground in immersive storytelling. As the first project to be filmed on Microsoft’s volumetric stage, it set a new standard for the medium. By approaching the production with a cinematic philosophy, the team carefully pre-planned and blocked each capture, lighting every scene to enhance how it would ultimately be experienced in virtual reality. This meticulous attention to detail influenced how Microsoft later approached lighting in volumetric productions, moving away from their initial flat, broad-lighting methodology.
The project required groundbreaking innovation in post-production as well. Custom pipelines were developed to retime, relight, and edit the volumetric captures, resulting in a seamless and emotionally resonant final piece.
Beyond the virtual reality experience, The 100% extended its reach through a multi-faceted campaign. A physical playbill was distributed at events, designed to engage audiences and serve as a trigger for a supplemental Augmented Reality (AR) application. This AR experience not only showcased volumetric video in an augmented space but also acted as a portal for donations to Stand Up To Cancer, blending cutting-edge technology with a vital social cause.
Corporate sponsorships played a significant role in bringing this ambitious project to life. Intel and HP provided critical financing and hardware support, with additional contributions from OWC. This backing ensured the production could push the boundaries of emerging media, culminating in a premiere at Tribeca Film Festival and a series of high-profile festival showings.
The 100% garnered widespread acclaim, winning Best Branded VR Experience of 2019 and the Social Impact Award at the VR Awards, among numerous other accolades. It was further recognized by the Television Academy with an Emmy nomination for Innovation in Emerging Media, cementing its status as a benchmark in both immersive storytelling and socially impactful media.
This project remains one of the most meaningful endeavors of my career. Its story, mission, and technical achievements reflect the incredible talent and passion of the team behind it.

Zanzibar: Trouble in Paradise
Zanzibar: Trouble in Paradise is a deeply moving documentary that tells the story of women in Zanzibar, an archipelago of Tanzania, who have found financial independence through seaweed farming—a livelihood increasingly threatened by climate change. The film chronicles their transition to sea sponge cultivation, a sustainable alternative that offers hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
This project originated in 2021 with the ambition to deploy custom-built holographic camera systems in the field, merging cutting-edge technology with meaningful storytelling. Collaborating with a frequent creative partner and drawing from prior Africa-based productions, we explored numerous potential narratives before committing to the remarkable story of the women of Zanzibar.
Capturing this story required a multifaceted team adept at navigating both the technical challenges of groundbreaking holographic video capture and the emotional depth of the women's experiences. The technology needed to be invisible to the subjects, allowing their authenticity, vulnerability, and strength to shine through.
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, accompanied by a fully immersive, custom-fabricated set that accentuated the viewing experience. This premiere also marked a historic milestone in holographic video, debuting the world’s largest holographic display in collaboration with Looking Glass Factory. Google Expeditions
Google Expeditions was an innovative international education platform that brought the world into classrooms through virtual reality. Designed for grade school to high school students, it allowed teachers to take their students on immersive field trips to explore cultural, environmental, and social topics worldwide. My company was honored to secure the first content production deal with Expeditions, creating impactful experiences that brought pressing global stories to life.
Among the projects we produced:
The Last Nomads: A poignant exploration of the Hadzabe people, one of the world’s last remaining nomadic tribes, highlighting the cultural, political, and environmental challenges threatening their way of life.
Rain and Sun: A deep dive into climate change’s impact on Tanzanian agriculture, documenting the struggles and adaptations of local farmers facing shifting weather patterns.
Refugee: A series addressing the Syrian refugee crisis in Germany, focusing on youth education, work assimilation, and cultural integration through sports.
Creating these experiences was both a technical and creative challenge. Filming in remote locations like rural Tanzania presented logistical hurdles, particularly in powering the large cameras required at the time. Reflecting on the advancements in technology since then, it’s remarkable to think similar shots can now be captured with pocket-sized devices that auto-stitch images together. Despite the challenges, the opportunity to bring these stories to life and share them with students worldwide was immensely rewarding.

The Sandbox
LionTree, a prestigious merchant bank at the center of the world’s largest technology and entertainment transactions, hosts an annual retreat that gathers industry leaders to explore trends shaping the future. Our relationship with LionTree began with The Sandbox, a project that combined immersive technology and meaningful storytelling to support rainforest conservation efforts in Guatemala.
The event featured projector-based globes as displays, and LionTree approached us to design content and experiences around this technology. To highlight the noble conservation initiative and the event’s theme of connectedness, we created The Sandbox, a multi-sensory, interactive art piece that invited guests to engage, collaborate, and leave their individual mark on the performance.
At the heart of The Sandbox was a large LED screen depicting a dynamic, real-time scene of a Guatemalan Mayan ruin, set in the rainforest LionTree was sponsoring. The accompanying globe display showcased the forest’s diverse wildlife, with scenes triggered by physical statues placed near the globe using RFID chips. These statues also influenced the weather within the visuals, creating an evolving environment for participants to explore.
A central sandbox incorporated projection mapping and depth sensors to simulate the topography of the rainforest. As guests combed their hands through the sand, the visuals responded in real time, reflecting changes in the forest’s terrain, fauna, and weather patterns. A striking Mayan sundial allowed participants to control the passage of time, shifting the visuals from day to night, while an immersive soundscape—crafted from real samples from the region—enhanced the experience.
The entire installation was housed within a beautifully fabricated design, blending artistry and technology to create a cohesive and impactful narrative.
Completed in just five weeks, The Sandbox was an extraordinary accomplishment for my team. Unveiled shortly before the pandemic began, it served as a poignant reminder of the importance of connection—between people, nature, and shared experiences.

Springbok Cares: Harnessing Immersive Technology for Healing
After producing a fundraising campaign for the University of Southern California’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program and working closely with young cancer patients, I recognized the transformative potential of immersive technologies in healthcare. Motivated by this insight, I co-founded Springbok Cares, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to bringing immersive technologies into hospitals to support patients with engaging and therapeutic experiences.
The mission of Springbok Cares was twofold: to offer patients a form of healthy escapism during challenging treatments and to collaborate with researchers and doctors to study and quantify the positive impacts these technologies could have on medical outcomes.
Through corporate sponsorships that I personally brokered, including partnerships with Google, Panasonic, and MSI, the organization was able to launch impactful programs. These began at USC, serving both inpatient and outpatient populations, and expanded to include Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the University of Nebraska. The programs benefited a wide range of patients, from young adults to geriatric populations, providing immersive content designed to entertain, inspire, and alleviate stress.
Springbok Cares achieved numerous milestones during its operation, bridging technology and healthcare to enhance the patient experience. While the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately brought the programs to a conclusion, the positive impact and goodwill generated by the organization continue to resonate.

Galvanized Souls: Pioneering Cinematic Storytelling in Immersive Video
When I founded Springbok in early 2015, our first production was the music video for New Generation by the rock band Galvanized Souls. At the time, the 360-degree video landscape was in its infancy—nearly all existing examples were static, single-view shots with no hard cuts, camera movements, or narrative elements. The medium lacked any implementation of cinematic theory. We set out to change that, aiming not only to create an engaging music video but also to push the boundaries of what immersive video could achieve.
The result was a dynamic visual journey that paid homage to cultural trailblazers, drawing inspiration from artists across the spectrum, from the Beastie Boys to the boy bands of the late ’90s.
At the time, distribution for immersive video was not as accessible as it is today, so we developed a dedicated mobile app to ensure fans could engage with the experience. The release was accompanied by branded merchandise, including a limited-edition vinyl record and a Google Cardboard headset, providing fans with everything they needed to dive into the immersive world we created.
When Google announced the imminent launch of YouTube 360, New Generation was selected as one of a dozen experiences to be part of the platform’s inaugural library. This recognition marked a major milestone for the project and positioned it as a key example of the potential of immersive video.
The music video went on to win numerous industry awards and took on a life of its own, frequently cited at tech and entertainment conferences as a benchmark for innovation in the medium.

The Ark is an immersive documentary that chronicles global conservation efforts to save the Northern White Rhinoceros, one of the world's most endangered species. As of 2024, only two Northern White Rhinos remain, both females residing under constant protection at Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
In 2016, during the production of The Ark, two pivotal conservation initiatives were underway:
San Diego Zoo Safari Park: Focused on cloning research and DNA preservation to ensure the species' genetic material is safeguarded for potential future revival.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya: Provided 24/7 armed protection for the last remaining Northern White Rhinos in the wild, safeguarding them from poaching threats.
The film was shot using early 360-degree camera technologies on location in both San Diego and Kenya, offering viewers an immersive experience into the rhinos' habitats and the dedicated efforts to save them.
The Ark premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival as part of the festival's inaugural immersive program. The premiere featured a set designed to replicate the shipping containers used for rhino transport, enhancing the immersive experience.
Following its premiere, The Ark has been internationally distributed and licensed by several platforms, including Hulu, bringing global attention to the plight of the Northern White Rhinoceros and the ongoing conservation efforts.

Axon Ecosystem
Axon, the global leader in first responder technology and equipment, continues to revolutionize public safety through its innovative product ecosystem. Building on a long and collaborative relationship, we partnered with Axon in 2022 to support the announcement of the Axon Ecosystem, a continued evolution of their product integrations, as well as their bold moonshot initiative: an effort to reduce police-related gun violence by 50%.
At the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2022 conference, Axon unveiled these groundbreaking initiatives with a visionary booth design inspired by the lunar space theme. Our team brought this concept to life, creating an immersive and interactive experience that showcased the Axon Ecosystem’s capabilities while amplifying the aspirational message of the moonshot initiative.
The centerpiece of the booth was an augmented reality (AR) room where guests could explore the moonshot’s key pillars and the products that supported them. Using iPads, attendees interacted with the space, which came alive through volumetrically captured scenarios and dynamic simulations. This futuristic medium provided a compelling way to engage with Axon’s vision and understand the practical applications of their product suite.
The room also featured holographic displays that showcased high-resolution renders of Axon’s products, creating a visually stunning and cohesive environment that aligned with the event’s lunar theme.
