Star Trek: Age of Perseus (AoP) was an ambitious original Star Trek IP co-developed with Nicholas Meyer, the acclaimed writer and director behind some of the franchise's most iconic films, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. AoP sought to explore an untold chapter in the Star Trek timeline, envisioned as a multi-platform narrative spanning a variety of media, including groundbreaking immersive experiences.
Though Age of Perseus ultimately did not come to fruition, the development process was nothing short of groundbreaking. Among its highlights was an innovative augmented reality game that utilized large spherical globes as the centerpiece of its interactive experience. This project set new standards for real-time interactive design and served as the initial foundation for many of the technologies later developed for Madison Square Garden's Sphere.
AoP stands apart in my body of work, not for its conclusion but for the innovations it fostered and the doors it opened. It is a reminder that success is often measured by the groundwork laid for future endeavors, and when one journey ends, it frequently leads to new and exciting opportunities. The creative and technical achievements of Age of Perseus remain a testament to the spirit of exploration and ingenuity that defines the Star Trek universe.
And perhaps, in the not-too-distant future, the world will have the chance to experience the full vision of The Age of Perseus.
